Your Insurance Options by Status

1

University Students (< 30)

Degree students (Bachelor/Master) under 30 are eligible for subsidized Public Student Insurance (e.g. TK), costing approx. €120-130/month.

2

Over 30 & PhD Candidates

Not eligible for the student rate. PhDs and older students can choose between standard Voluntary Public or more affordable Private Insurance.

3

Language & Preparatory

Studienkolleg and language students must use Expat/Incoming Insurance (from €35/month) until official enrollment.

The Blocked Account (Sperrkonto)

To get a German student visa, you must prove that you can support yourself financially. The most common way to do this is by opening a Blocked Account.

You must deposit a minimum amount specified by German law (currently €992 per month, totaling around €11,904 per year). Once you arrive in Germany, this account releases exactly €992 each month into your regular German bank account.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the M10 certificate? +

The M10 is an electronic notification that German health insurance providers send directly to universities. It confirms you have valid insurance, which is a legal requirement for enrollment. We handle this transmission for you automatically.

Do I need to translate my documents? +

No, our entire process is handled in English, and the certificates we provide are internationally recognized by German embassies and immigration authorities without needing further translation.

How fast can I open the Blocked Account? +

The account opening process is instant upon application. Once you transfer the required funds (e.g. €11,904), your official blocking confirmation is usually issued within 1-3 business days, depending on international transfer speeds.

What happens if my visa is rejected? +

If your visa is denied, you can submit the official rejection letter to us. Your Blocked Account funds will be returned to your original account, and your health insurance policy will be canceled without penalty.
